Adverbial modifiers of manner

Note: In the above sentences the question words are:

как? how?

or

каким образом in what manner

Parenthetic words or phrases

конечно of course

Джон, конечно, согласится нам помочь   

Of course John will agree to help us.

 

вероятно probably

Джон,  вероятно,  согласится  нам помочь

John will probably agree to help us.

 

по-моему in my opinion ­

По моему, сегодня идёт дождь.

According to me it will be raining today.

 

In the above sentences the highlighted words, which are used to express the speak­er's attitude, is known as parenthetic phrases. Parenthetic phrases are not parts of the sentence in which they stand, and are set off by commas.

 

Вы, должно быть, устали. 

You must be tired.

 

Здесь должно быть свободное место.

There must be a vacant seat here.

Note: In the first sentence должно быть is a parenthetic phrase; in the sec­ond it is the predicate

They do not answer any questions. Depending on the context, parenthetic words may have different meanings:

Джон, по словам его товарищей, согласится нам помочь.         

According to his friends, John will agree to help us.
