The definitive pronouns каждый (every, each) denotes one of a number of similar objects or persons

 

Declension of каждый

 

каждый declines as an adjective.

 

Каждый студент на моём месте отвечил бы так же.

Any student in my place would have acted the same way.

 

In addition, the pronoun каждый has a meaning similar to that of the pronoun все. In this meaning каждый (each) cannot be replaced by любой or всякий.

На конференции высказался каждый присутствующий.

Each of those present spoke at the conference.

 

На конференции высказались все присутствующие.

All those present spoke at the conference.

 

The pronoun каждый is generally used in the singular:

каждый ученик each pupil

каждая ученица each pupil

каждое слово each word

 

In the plural, каждый (every) is used with nouns which have no singular.

Он приезжал каждые сутки.       

Не used to come every day.

 

In the plural, каждый (every) is used in phrases containing a noun preceded by a cardinal numeral:

Аспиранты и профессоры встречались каждые два дня.    

The research scholars and professors met every two days.

 

Каждые три больные разместились в отдельной комнате.

Every two patients were accommodated in a separate room.

 

Note. When used with nouns denoting time,

каждый does not require a preposition:

 

каждый день every day

каждое утро every morning

каждый год every year

каждую зиму every winter

 

but:

        

в первый день on the first day

в это утро that morning

в этот год that year

в прошлую зиму last winter.

 

Каждое утро я встаю  в 5 часов, но в это утро я встал в 8 часов.

Every morning I get  up at 5 o'clock, but that morning I got up at 8.

 

The pronouns каждый is occasionally used as nouns and fulfil the function of the subject or object of the sentence.

У каждого свое мнение.

Everyone has his/her own opinion.
