The preposition благодаря is used to denote cause. Sentences with благодаря report pleasant   phenomena or facts.

 

Благодаря хорошему руководству работа была закончена досрочно.

Thanks to good management the work was finished ahead of time.

 

Экскурсия прошла удачно  хорошей погоде.

The excursion was a success owing to the fine weather.

 

Note. из-за (owing to, because of) is used as antonym of hen благодаря unpleasant phenomena are reported the preposition is generally used (followed by the genitive)

 

Из-за плохого руководства работа не была   закончена в срок.

Owing to bad management the work was not  finished on time.

 

Экскурсия   не  состоялась   из-за плохой  погоды.

The excursion did not take place owing to the bad weather.
