Preposition дo

The preposition до is used only with the genitive.

A noun with дo denotes a spatial limit of an action or movement, and answers the question: до какого места? (up) to what place?

Mы иддём до библиотеки пешком.

We walk up to the library on foot.

 

Я не смтрел  этот фильм до конца.

I have not seen the film till the end.

 

Often the verb used with preposition до has the prefix до
Я дочитал эту книгу до конца.        

I read to the end.

 

Я доехал до дома.     

I reached the house.

 

до is used to denote the time limit of an action (the final point of time) and answers the question:  до какого времени? до каких пор? till what time?

Дождь шёл до утра.

It rained till morning.

 

Мы работали до вечера.      

We worked till evening.

 

У нас зантия в университета до пяти.

In the university we have class till five.   

 

A noun with до (before) may denote the time of action and answer the question когда? when?

Сегодня ко мне пришли гости  до обеда.

Today some guests came to me before lunch.

 

Когда ко вам пришли гости?

When did the guests come to you?

 

Студенты вошли в класс до звонка.           

The students had entered the сlass before the bell.
