Preposition накануне

накануне on  the eve of 

накануне is used with noun in genitive case and denotes the time of an action. It answers the question: когда? when?

Накануне нового года мы все друзья собирались в общежитии.

We all the friends assembled in the hostel on the eve of the new rear.

 

Когда вы все друзья собирались в общежитии?

When did all of you assemble in the hostel?

 

Все поздравляли невесту накануне брака.

Everybody congratulated the bride on the eve of her marriage.

Когда все поздравляли невесту?

When did all congratulate the bride?
