The reflexive pronoun себя

 

The reflexive pronoun себя (oneself) does not change for gender:

 

Винот видит себя в зеркале.           

Vinod sees himself in the mirror.

 

Нина видит себя в зеркале.

Nina sees herself in the mirror.

 

The pronoun себя does not change for number.

Винот видит себя  в зеркале

Vinod sees himself in the mirror.

Они видят себя в зеркале.

They see themselves in the mirror.

 

The reflexive pronoun себя has no nominative. It is declined as the pronoun ты.

Genitive --- себя,  

Dative --- себе

Accusative --- себя.

Instrumental --- собой (собою)

Preposition --- о себе.

 

The  pronoun  себя   in  any  case may correspond to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd person and invariably refers to the  performer of  the action (the subject):

Я вижу себя в зеркале.

I see myself in the mirror.

 

Ты видишь себя  в зеркале.

You see yourself in the mirror.

 

Мы видим себя в зеркале.

We see ourselves in the mirror.

 

Вы видите себя в зеркале.

You see yourselves in the mirror.

 

Он видит себя  в зеркале.

Не sees himself in the mirror.

 

Она видит себя в зеркале.

She sees herself in the mirror.

 

Я купил себе книгу.

I bought myself a book.

 

Ты купил себе книгу.

You bought yourself a book.

 

Он купил себе книгу.

He bought himself a book.

 

Она купила себе книгу.

She bought herself a book.

 

Они видят себя в зеркале.

They see themselves in the mirror.

 

Мы купили себе книгу.

We bought ourselves a book.
